In its recently unveiled "Latin American Guide 2013", Chambers and Partners, the leading directory of the legal profession in the world, recognized AMG as one of the top Puerto Rico law firms.
The London based legal ranking publisher noted that AMG "handles important mandates for international clients and high net worth individuals", and regarded Fernando Goyco-Covas as "intelligent, experienced and highly knowledgeable," and "one of the best tax lawyers in the market." Mr. Goyco-Covas is also one of only two Puerto Rico corporate tax lawyers ranked "Band 1" by Chambers, for the third year in a row. Chambers wrote that AMG also "excels in estate planning."
The Corporate/Commercial Group was also praised, and Chambers wrote that the firm "handles a rich mix of work spanning M&A deals, real estate transactions, capital markets issuance, commercial loans and corporate advisory matters." This group was praised for its "high-quality work at competitive rates." Partner Nikos Buxeda-Ferrer was cited as having "widespread recognition for his securities knowledge" and a "strong academic background."
The Real Estate Practice was noted as handling "important mandates for financial institutions, hospitality clients and green energy companies." José Antonio Fernández-Jaquete was recognized as "the first port of call for real estate clients."
AMG's Litigation Practice Group was also recognized as focusing on "complex commercial litigation, class actions and dealership and franchise disputes." Chambers noted that clients praise shareholder Eric Pérez-Ochoa, Chair of the department, as a "responsive, helpful and knowledgeable lawyer and a shrewd tactician." In addition, Mr. Pérez-Ochoa advanced from a "Band 3" to a "Band 2" ranking placing him among an elite group of the top litigators in Puerto Rico. Pedro Jiménez-Rodríguez was also recognized by the legal directory as an "experienced and prestigious figure" in this practice area.
