Eric Pérez-Ochoa
Eric Pérez-Ochoa received a B.A. from Boston College and his law degree from Suffolk University Law School. He directs the Litigation and Trial Practice Department.
Mr. Pérez-Ochoa practices complex commercial litigation, representing clients at the trial and appellate court levels, particularly in the federal courts. In recent years, much of Mr. Pérez-Ochoa's work has focused on the representation of principals or manufacturers, as well as distributors and agents, in distributorship, franchising and representation related suits and disputes arising under Puerto Rico's Dealership Statute (Law 75) and Sales Representation Act (Law 21); owners, contractors, architects and engineers in construction and facility related disputes; and collection and foreclosure actions for a major bank and the defense of lender liability claims filed as part of such proceedings.
He also has considerable experience in insurance related disputes, having represented insurance companies and their insured in claims covered by policies, as well as insurance companies in coverage and bad faith denial of coverage disputes. Mr. Pérez-Ochoa has significant experience in arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution proceedings and has acted as counsel in mediation proceedings, and numerous arbitration trials.
Mr. Pérez-Ochoa is a former President of the Puerto Rico Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and presently sits as a member of the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico's District Examination Committee and the Puerto Rico Bar Association's Committee on Insurance.
Mr. Pérez-Ochoa is also active in numerous trade and business associations and professional groups, and is called upon frequently to act as speaker or lecture in litigation related conferences and seminars.
